Prominent People of the Bible ~Â Noah
Noah built a boat out of wood to save his family. God sent Jesus to die on a piece of wood to save us from our sins. This wood of the cross has room for much more than eight people. The cross is an ark of God’s grace and forgiveness that has enough room for all the people of the world. God wants us all to come aboard through faith in what Jesus did for us.
When Christians just focus on the cross and resurrection of Jesus, they don’t worry themselves about when the end is coming or try to decipher everything that happens in the world. They don’t panic. They don’t try to build an ark, because the "ark" has been built by Jesus’ death for the sins of the world. They just believe in God’s promise in Christ, and they want the world to take him seriously and believe. It is a message of hope and salvation for all to hear.
It is like the R.E.M. song goes, "It’s the end of the world as we know it" and trusting in Jesus, that’s just fine.
The rainbow was God's symbol of his promise to Noah and all people that he would never destroy the Earth again by a flood. The Rainbow is an abiding symbol of God's faithfulness. More information is located online at WhatAboutJesus.com. Look for the What About … Prominent People link.

CWS News:
Our January 10th meeting attendance was 15 ladies.
Pastor Johnston opened our meeting with a devotion and we sang hymn 150.
VISITING COMMITTEE:
We will start visiting our shut-ins in February or March, we will bring a card (that our 1 & 2nd graders designed (THANK YOU Mrs Knorr) to each member and also a cross that they can carry in their pocket with a prayer on it to remind them that the Lord is always watching over them. Jean checked and other churches visit their shut-ins 3 or 4 times a year, usually around holidays, we will decide at our February meeting if that is what our ladies wish to do also.
COOKBOOK: We will still be selling cookbooks throughout the year, they are only $10.00 and full of delicious recipes. Marie has agreed to make a sign and we will have them available on Sundays, or you can contact me Pat at 850-2122 if you are interested in one at other times. Again, we thank all those ladies and gents responsible for making our COOKBOOK a huge success.
CHAIRS: We have enough money now to purchase 100 additional chairs for our school and congregation, CWS has graciously approved over $1,500.00 and $700.00 will come from the Athletic Fund. Dan Paltzer is making the chair rack and donating it to our congregation. Of course, his wife may have had a little something to do with that.
GREEN MACHINE: CWS will be purchasing a Green Machine, this is a little carpet/upholstery cleaner that works great on small items (like our chairs), Kathy Peterson has agreed to pick this up.
NEW CHRISTMAS BANNER: Our Congregation was again blessed with the addition of a beautiful new CHRISTMAS BANNER from our member June Poppe's son Jay, who donated it to our congregation. If you see Jay in church with June, please be sure to thank him, we are truly blessed to have his talents adorn our church.
COMMUNION WARE: We are in the process of getting quotes on getting our communion ware refurbished, Kathy and Dick Peterson took the cover and one tray to Appleton Trophy, they had to send it out for the estimate, so if you don't see the cover on the communion tray for a few weeks, you will know why. More to follow when we receive the quotes. Thank you Dick and Kathy for doing this.
EXTRAVAGANZA: Our ladies agreed to put baskets together for our extravaganza event on March 11th. All ladies will bring whatever items they wish to our February meeting, Marie will bring baskets; we will see what we get and go from there. CWS will contribute any additional items needed to make them beautiful and appealing.
THANK YOU: Also, long overdue is a huge THANK YOU to Bev Harke for the two beautiful bowls for our Communion cups, thank you Bev.
LENTEN SUPPERS: We need to start thinking about our Wednesday Lenten Services, we are hoping our school and congregation will work together to prepare the meals on these Wednesdays. Judy Williamson will put a sign up sheet on the table in February, so please consider getting a group together to put on one of these meals. They are fun to do and enjoyed by all. Thank you in advance.
We received THANK YOU'S from Mike Dollovoet, Jerry and Jared Evansen for their Christmas gifts.
